George Kenneth Higdon

George Kenneth Higdon, 82, longtime Seminole resident died Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at his home in Seminole surrounded by his loving family. George was born April 29, 1930 in Seminole, Oklahoma to Luther and Kate Ruth (Gurley) Higdon. George lived all his life in Seminole and attended Pleasant Grove Schools and graduated in 1948.  George was a self-employed oilfield consultant and worked in the Seminole oilfields for over 45 years, retiring in 1987. George went back to work in 1988 for Seminole Public Schools as a bus driver and later drove the Senior Citizen bus for Seminole he was very active in community affairs and enjoyed donating his time screening children for vision problems at local elementary schools.  George was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Seminole. George was also a member of the Seminole Masonic City Lodge # 476, K.C.C. H & McAlester Consistory and Scottish Rite, had reached the highest degree of a 33rd degree mason. George was very active as a mason for over 55 years and served in all the local officer positions and was a member of the degree team # 28. George loved fishing and enjoyed going with his family as much as possible. George married Jennie Lee Rounsaville on June 6, 1949 at the First United Methodist Church parsonage in Seminole, Oklahoma. They were married for 63 years and had three children Kenneth D. Higdon, Karan Higdon and Keith Higdon. His wife, Jennie Higdon, of the home, two sons, Kenneth D. Higdon and his wife Helen of Yukon, Oklahoma and Keith Higdon of Lubbock, Texas survives George. His son-in-law Bob Douthit of Seminole, Oklahoma, his seven grandchildren; Scott Douthit of Seminole, George David Higdon of Moore, Bobby Douthit of Seminole, Bonnie Decker of Seminole, Becky Deer of Seminole, Candace Higdon of Shawnee, and Deana Byrd of Seminole along with sixteen great grandchildren also survive him. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.  In lieu of flowers please make donations to the American Cancer Foundation. He was preceded in death by his parents Kate and Luther Higdon, one sister Pat Padgett, his daughter Karen Ann (Higdon) Douthit, and his granddaughter, Jennifer L. Higdon. Funeral services with Masonic rites will be held 10:00 A.M., Monday October 29, 2012 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole, Oklahoma. Officiating at the service will be Rev. Dave Karges and Rev. Glen Pence. Casket bearers will be Scott Douthit, Bobby Douthit, George D. Higdon, Charles Byrd, Tyler Douthit, and  Jay Kelly. Honorary bearers will be Cotton Douthit, Bob Douthit and Charles Padgett. Funeral services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
