Funeral services for longtime Seminole County resident George M. Glenn are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at the Bowlegs First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Roy Robertson officiating the service. Interment will follow at Little Cemetery with military honors.rnrnGeorge, 77, died un-expectedly Friday, February 15, 2008 while attending to his cattle.rnrnHe was born in Mounds, Oklahoma on April 5, 1930. He lived in Mounds and Sapulpa area while growing up, and worked in his father's mechanic shop.rnrnGeorge graduated Sapulpa High School before joining the United States Navy, where he served on the USS Prinston from 1950 until 1954, during the Korean Conflict.rnrnAfter his honorable discharge from the Navy, he married Mary Ann Chandler of Bowlegs, Oklahoma on June 6, 1954. The couple moved to Holdenville, Oklahoma where George was employed at Lee Weathered Hardware Store in Holdenville.rnrnThe following year George and Mary moved back to Bowlegs, Oklahoma. Mary was a homemaker and George began un-knowingly, a life time service with the City and County of Seminole.rnrnGeorge held several positions during his employment , but most of his time was spent as the "Meter Man", in the Police Department. He was the parking officer until the parking meters were removed. He also worked in the Sanitation and Maintenance Departments. George retired from the City of Seminole in 1992, with 37 years of service.rnrnGeorge also worked for Seminole County as Custodian for both, the District Court, and Drug Court, where he continued to be employed until his death. His death ends 53 years of service with the City and County offices in Seminole, Oklahoma.rnrnGeorge was well known throughout the community as a "good man". He was always lending a helping hand to someone in need. He was "A Jack of all trades" that "could do anything". He continued to apply the skills learned at his father's garage, and could often be found working on someone's car. He loved and enjoyed life, his family, and hard work.rnrnHe was preceded in death by his parents Opal and John Otis "Ode" Glenn; and a brother, Ralph Glenn who died in 2007.rnrnHe is survived by his wife of almost 54 years, Mary Glenn of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Stacy (Laxton) Glenn of Seminole, Oklahoma; two daughters and a son-in-law, Shereata and her husband Carl Ellis of Strothers, Oklahoma, and Janet Walker of Bowlegs, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Marceline and her husband Jim Johnson of Tuttle, Oklahoma, Betty Byrd of Bakersfield, California and Margaret Little of Kellyville, Oklahoma; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Butch and his wife Glenda Glenn of Sapulpa, Oklahoma and Johnny and his wife LaVonne Glenn of Ellwnwood, Kansas. Geroge is also survived by a host of other family and dear friends.rnrnGeroge was known by many names: "The Trash Man", "The Meter Man", "Brother George", and "Georgie". Most importantly, he was "Dad", "Daddy", "Grandpa", and "Uncle George".rnrnHe will be greatly missed!rnrnCasket bearers will be: Tommy Monks, Mike White, Jerry Streets, Cody Ellis, Buster Wilcox, Kirby Glenn and Bobby Azlin.rnrnServices are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home - Seminole, Oklahoma.
