George Carter Forrest, 86, died, Saturday, February 19, 2011 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, He was the son of Carter and Sarah (Cole) Forrest was born December 26, 1924 in Lyons, Kansas. George attended schools in Lyons, Kansas and Carrollton, Missouri. He entered the United States Air Force during World War II. He was a Staff Sergeant and saw active duty in the Pacific. His overseas assignment were; New Guinea, the Philippians, and Iwo Shima. George was honorably discharged from the service in November 1945. George returned to Lyons, Kansas and went to work for Conoco, Inc. Later known as Conoco-Phillips. On March 20, 1947 George was united in marriage to Carol Belong, also of Lyons. To this union was born one son Ron Forrest in November of 1969. George transferred by Conoco to Cherokee, Oklahoma in the fall 1966. George retired in 1985 with 39 years of service with Conoco. George and Carol moved to Seminole in 2006. They celebrated their 60th anniversary in 2007 with a party hosted by family members. George was a regular church attendant and will be remember as a faithful Christian, a good provider and a very thoughtful and caring person. He is survived by his wife, Carol and several-in-laws, which he claimed as his own. Nieces, nephews and some children that he claimed as “ grandkids” He was preceded in death by his son Ron, his parents and a brother Jim Forrest. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at the First Baptist Church at 420 Reid Street in Seminole, Oklahoma with Rev. Marvin Kehl and LaRoi Woods officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, 1001 N. Milt Phillips Avenue, Seminole, Oklahoma 74868.
