Genny Briery

May 27, 1924 — February 1, 2010

Devoted wife, loving mother, doting grandmother and great grandmother, Geneieve C. "Genny" Briery, passed away on February 1, 2010 in Allen, Texas at the age of 85. She was born on May 27, 1924 in Locust Grove, Oklahoma to Oliver Bart and Ava Cook.  Genny graduated from Seminole High School in 1942 and attended Seminole Junior College.  She went to work as a secretary for Seminole Public Schools where she worked at Northwood and Roosevelt for 25 years. She was loved by and touched so many students’ lives while working at Seminole Schools.  She was a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 204 and was a member of the Seminole Teacher’s Association.  She was a member of the First Christian Church in Seminole.  She helped with the American Cancer Society Fundraising activities and the American Lung Association.   Genny loved yard work, lake activities, boating and fishing.  She also loved being with her grandchildren.  She married Clifford Edward “C.E.” Briery on January 1, 1942 in Seminole, Oklahoma and they just celebrated their 67th year of marriage. Genny leaves the cherished memories of her husband C.E. Briery of the home, daughter and son-in-law: Sharon and Mike Townsend of Plano, Texas and one sister, Helen Jones of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  She is also survived by her grandchildren; Ashley and husband Frank Slaughter of Prosper, Texas and Alisha and husband Bryan Rand of Frisco, Texas, great grandchildren, Jurnee, Dalton, Andrew, Cade, Sarah, Ella, Rhea, Haylee and Grace.  She also leaves a host of friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Ava Cook, brother, Weldon Cook, sister, Evelyn Duke and son, Cliff Briery. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 4, 2010 at the Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Rev. Andy Lewis of the Holy Covenant Methodist Church in Carrolton, Texas officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole.  Pallbearers will be: Mike Townsend, Frank Slaughter, Bryan Rand, Dalton Hill, Cade Hill and Dayton Barnes. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Genny’s memory to the American Cancer Society American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
