Gene McGinnis

Onyal “Gene” McGinnis, 87 year old longtime Seminole County resident, passed from this life on Sunday, December 10, 2017 in Springdale, Arkansas.  He was born April 22, 1930 in Earlsboro, Oklahoma to parents Bessie Naomi (Hudson) McGinnis and Sidney F. McGinnis. Gene joined the United States Army where he earned the Army Occupation Medal (Japan), the United Nations Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Sve Star and the combat Infantry Badge. On October 16, 1953 Gene married Alberta Faye (King) McGinnis in Seminole, Oklahoma. Survivors include two sons, Randy McGinnis and his wife Junel of McAlester, Oklahoma, Kent McGinnis of Springdale, Arkansas; one daughter, Cynthia (McGinnis) Luce and her husband Jerry of Checotah, Oklahoma; two sisters, Lorene Quinalty and her husband Bill of Seminole, Oklahoma, Pat Cheatham and her husband Bill of Springdale, Arkansas; 5 grandchildren, Mesha Jones of Chickasha, Oklahoma, Eric Cross of Eufaula, Oklahoma, Stefanie Flud of Checotah, Oklahoma, Lauren Milton of Alma, Arkansas, Shane McGinnis of McAlister, Oklahoma; 10 great-grandchildren, Seth Flud, Kayson Flud, Jaxxton Flud, Jentry Flud all of Checotah, Oklahoma, Aiden Cross, Gage Cross of Eufaula, Oklahoma, Piper Milton, Luke Milton of Alma, Arkansas, Elijah Brewer and Page Leeds of Chickasha, Oklahoma; and a host of other family and dear friends. Gene was preceded in death by his parents Sidney and Bessie McGinnis, by his wife of 61 years, Alberta Faye (King) McGinnis who died April 10, 1014, by one sister, Louise Cole, and by two brothers, J.L. McGinnis and Jirl D. McGinnis. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma with Military Honors.  Interment will follow at Little Cemetery with Rev. Roy Robertson and Dr. Jack Medlock officiating the service. Casket Bearers will be: Eric Cross, Jimmy Flud, Shane McGinnis, Scot Milton, Terry McGinnis and Gary Lankford.
