Elmer Eugene “Gene” Cathey, 66 year-old, life-long Seminole County resident, passed from this life July 21, 2010 in Albion, Oklahoma. He was born December 3, 1943 in Seminole, Oklahoma to parents Elmer Cathey and Shirley Ann (Taber) Cathey. Gene graduated from Bowlegs High School in 1961. He had worked in the oilfield as a roustabout and tool-pusher for many years and prior to his retirement he worked as a truck driver for Seminole County and United Truck Service. Survivors include his father who raised him, Joe Tolbert of Seminole, Oklahoma; first wife, Lelia Delores (McCoy) Renfro of Shawnee, Oklahoma; second wife, Fern “LaDawn” Cathey of Konawa, Oklahoma; three sons and daughters-in-law, Shawn and Tina O’Dell of Konawa, Oklahoma, Shane and Natalie O’Dell of Konawa, Oklahoma and Justin and Racine Cathey of Abilene, Texas; six daughters and sons-in-law, Ronda Cathey and Bobby Bush of Seminole, Oklahoma, Shelly Sanders of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Crystal and Travis Howe of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Sherri and Bronk Berry of Maud, Oklahoma, Shanna and Ashley Postman of Maud, Oklahoma, and Sharla “Charlie” and Brandon Woodland of New Boden, Illinois; two brothers and sisters-in-law, David and C.J. Cathey of Bowlegs, Oklahoma and Larry and Mary Cathey of Missouri; two sisters, Judy Kendrick of Calvin, Oklahoma and Zaidida Jackson of Bristow, Oklahoma; 21 grandchildren and one great-grandchild is expected to arrive soon; Gene is also survived by a host of other family and dear friends. Gene is preceded in death by his mother, Shirley; by his father, Elmer Cathey; one sister, Peggy Ann Cathey and by one half brother, Jerry Campbell. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 26, 2010 at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at Little Cemetery north of Seminole. Drew Isaacs will officiate the service. Casket Bearers will be: Weldon “Diggs” Robbins, Johnny Robbins, Travis Howe, Zackary Howe, Ashley Postman and Bobby Bush.
