Fred Roy, 87 year-old, longtime Maud resident passed from this life Tuesday, March 16, 2010 in Tucson, Arizona. He was born July 1, 1922 in Navajo, Montana to parents Martin Clarence Roy and Frances Madge Irene (LeClair) Roy. Fred married Reta Schleicher on May 8, 1971 in Henderson, Nevada. He worked for Greyhound Bus Company in Tucson as a bus driver for many years until his retirement in 1978. The couple then moved to Maud, Oklahoma where Fred continued to work as a rancher raising Arabian Horses, he also worked for B.J. Hughes as a truck driver. Later he and his wife owned and operated the Gas Station in Maud for several years. Fred was of the Methodist faith and was also a member of the Seminole Elks Lodge and a former Mason. Fred leaves to cherish his memory his wife of almost 39 years, Reta Roy of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Frank Roy and his wife Jennie of Maud, Oklahoma, Steve Roy and his wife Helen of Santee, California and Larry Roy and his wife Terry of Santee, California; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol Heath and her husband Jerry of El Cajon, California and Lana Wilson and her husband John of Alpine, California; five grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren as well as a host of other family and dear friends. Fred is preceded in death by his parents and by two half brothers and one half sister. Graveside services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 26, 2010 at Calvary Cemetery in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Rev. Gary Wilburn will officiate the service. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home in Maud, Oklahoma.
