Frank Harjo passed away on January 4, 2022, in Shawnee, Oklahoma at the age of 73. He was born December 6, 1948, in Cromwell, Oklahoma to Earnest J. Harjo and Ola (Wesley) Harjo. Frank grew up in Arcadia, Oklahoma before settling in Shawnee. He was a member of the Muscogee Creek Nation of Oklahoma. Frank married Anita Harjo on September 17, 1977, in Cromwell and sadly she passed away on November 30, 2020.
Frank worked at various spots in Oklahoma City, Seminole and Shawnee before retiring from the Citizen Potawotomi Nation. He attended Little Quarsarty Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and church leader. He had held many positions in the church throughout his life. He enjoyed attending church and singing Creek hymns, spending time with family and grandkids, following the OKC Thunder and Oklahoma Sooners, reading and studying the Bible and watching old western shows and movies.
Frank is survived by his sons; Frank Harjo, Jr. and wife Katy of Coweta, Oklahoma and Jason Harjo of Shawnee, Oklahoma, sisters; Lois Harjo of Wellston, Oklahoma, Ruth Harjo, Carolyn Harjo and David Perkins, all of Arcadia, Oklahoma and grandchildren; Hunter, Holly and Hayden Harjo. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters; Frances Field and Bertha Sands and his brother; John Harjo.
The wake service for Frank will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 7, 2022, at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma.
The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at Little Quarsarty Baptist Church in Cromwell, Oklahoma with Fred Lindsey and Joe Lindsey officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Lunch will be served at 12:00 p.m. in the Little Quarsarty Baptist Church fellowship hall.
Casket bearers will be Randy and Patrick Harjo, Jeremy Harjo, Kevin Johnson, Jonathan Maples and Joshua Harjo.
Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
