Maud resident Forrest Leroy Brooks, passed away at the age of 87 on October 17, 2024. he was born December 11, 1936, in Maud, Oklahoma to William Lee and Beulah Belle (Choat) Brooks. Leroy spent his school days at Maud Public Schools. Once he completed his studies, he joined the U.S. Navy at the early age of 19 and was awarded the good conduct medal and honorable discharge after 4 years of service. He then spent 2 years in the reserves until officially retiring his duties in the fall of 1962.
Leroy was an avid fisherman and guitar player who enjoyed life to the fullest, he never passed up the chance to find a good fishing hole or pick at his guitar. After his time in the military was completed, he took to the open road and began working for Standard Trucking Company, hauling cement. On his travels he was eventually led to a small diner in Victorville, California where he met the love of his life Patricia Ann Waegerle They were quite the dynamic duo and enjoyed many years together full of laughs and love. Pat sadly passed away in November of 2021. Leroy was one of a kind and left a permanent impression on many, he will always be remembered for his fun loving and boisterous humor, although they are both deeply missed here on earth, we can have peace knowing he is now reunited with his love in their heavenly home.
Leroy is survived by his children; Jeff Brooks, Cheryl Bailey and Jim, Joseph Johnson and Kelley, Trece Eaks and Miles, brother Donald Brooks and Betty, sister Carol Johnson, 9 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and many beloved nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Beulah, brothers Avery Leon Brooks and James Ralph Brooks.
A celebration of life service will be held at 4:00 P.M., November 9, 2024, at the Lord’s Community Church in Seminole, Oklahoma, with Randy Lehman officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Navy Honor Guard. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
