Floyd Edward Downey

Floyd Edward Downey, age 87 and a resident of Konawa, Oklahoma passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at Solara Hospital in Shawnee, Oklahoma. A memorial service is schedule for 10:00 a.m. on June 18, 2011 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa.  Burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery.  Rev. Kevin Duck, Pastor of the Vamoosa Baptist Church will officiate. Floyd was born on December 13, 1923 in Morrison, Oklahoma to Vera Opal (Itner) Downey and Roy Edward Downey.  He was a graduate of Eureka High School in 1941.  Floyd married Laura Marie Brewer on September 12, 1948 in Konawa.  He was a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers, a Cub Scout Leader and a little league baseball coach for eight years.  Floyd was also an avid Konawa sports fan.  He was employed as a PBX Installer for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in the Ada District for twenty-eight years until his retirement in 1975. He is survived by two sons, Homer Downey and wife, Debbie of Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma, and Rex Downey and wife, Janice of Chickasha, Oklahoma; two daughters, Evelyn March and husband, Ed of Glencoe, Oklahoma, and Ruth Duck and husband, Roger of Konawa, Oklahoma; two sister-in-laws, Peggy Downey of Oklahoma City and Dorothy Downey of Glencoe, Oklahoma; thirteen grandchildren, Martin March of Phoenix, Arizona, Darrell March of Chandler, Arizona, Daniel March of Rose Hill, Kansas, Sheresa Downey of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Tony Downey and wife, Tina of Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma, Sara Adams of Konawa, Oklahoma, Tim Downey and wife, Leisha of Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma, Sharla Downey of Owasso, Oklahoma, Jim E. Duck and wife, Kelly of Muskogee, Oklahoma, Tammy Brakhage of Konawa, Oklahoma, Gina Mullins and husband, Rickie of Coweta, Oklahoma, Laressa Thomas and husband, Bryan of Sasakwa, Oklahoma, and Susan Rantall and husband, Scott of Austin, Texas; fifteen great grandchildren, Tahni March, Brandon Downey, Klaire Downey, Trent Downey, Afton Adams, Shayla Adams, Charles Adams, Garrett Raney, Shelby Brakhage, Kadence Duck, Joshua Duck, Derik Thomas, Chad Thomas, Courtney Thomas, and Allison Mullins; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Marie Downey; his parents, Vera and Roy Downey; and three brothers, Jim, Leroy, and Ray Downey.
