Fletcher Verlin

Verlin Fletcher, 82 year old Maud, Oklahoma resident passed from this life Saturday, December 16, 2017 at his home.  He was born August 29, 1935 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma to parents Robert Buck Fletcher and Bertha Louise (Guinn) Fletcher. Verlin joined the United States Navy, serving as a Seaman First Class aboard the USS Black. On June 20, 1955 Verlin married Barbara Presley in Pontotoc County, Oklahoma. In 1963 Verlin began working in the oilfield trucking business "Fletcher Trucking".  In 1981 he started his own company "Transamerica Drilling" which he owned until 1987. Verlin enjoyed drag racing, old cars and messing with his trucks. Verlin is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara (Presley) Fletcher; two sons, Larry Fletcher and his wife Brenda of Tuskahoma, Oklahoma, Cary Fletcher and his wife Karen of Maud, Oklahoma; one brother, Joel Fletcher and his wife Pat of Maud, Oklahoma; two sisters, Bernice Stalnaker of Maud, Oklahoma, Sherry Hilburn and her husband Randy of Maud, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Bill and Tarrah Willis, Brad and Lacey Fletcher, Brian Fletcher, Shae and Monica Fletcher, Cherrish Fletcher; great-grandchildren, Lari, Megan, Beau Willis, Braiden and Braylee Fletcher, Christian and Shaylnn Fletcher, Braxton and Madison Fletcher; and a host of other family and dear friends. Verlin is preceded in death by his parents, Buck and Bertha Fletcher, by three brothers, Joe Fletcher, David Fletcher and Gerald Fletcher, by a granddaughter, Brandi Fletcher and great-great grandson, Gatlyn McDonald and his dog Nailer. Funeral services with Military Honors are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Trinity Baptist Church in Maud, Oklahoma with Pastor Butch Bradley officiating the service assisted by Rev. Carl Whitfield.  Interment will follow at Cummings Cemetery in Maud, Oklahoma. Casket Bearers will be: Brad Fletcher, Braiden Fletcher, Bill Willis, Shae Fletcher, Cherrish Fletcher, Barry Fletcher, Colton McDonald, Eric Browning, Cody Berry and Chris Impson. Honorary Casket Bearer will be grandson, Brian Fletcher. Services are under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home in Maud, Oklahoma.
