Evelyn Florene (Simms) Gentry, 98, died January 10, 2017 in Carrollton, Texas, she was born on June 25, 1918 in Purdy, Oklahoma, one of 7 children of Charles Franklin and Eula Lee ( Henson) Simms. She married Charles Donald Gentry on August 13, 1934. Evelyn was a homemaker and traveled extensively while her husband, Don, worked on the core drill for Carter Oil, Humble Oil and Exxon-Mobil. She always loved to fish, and loved to eat crappie. Evelyn was a George Strait fan and got to see him in a concert in Oklahoma City. She especially loved to sit on her sister Brookie’s front porch and look at the Wichita Mountains where she grew up. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Charles Alton (Kinky) Simms, and Minor Kay Simms; three sisters, Brooksie Gross, Irene Wise and Virginia Cockburn; and one son-in-law, Bill E. Magruder. She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Shirley Kay Magruder of Seminole, Oklahoma and Deborah and R.D. Rankin of Coppell, Texas. She is also survived by five grandchildren; Kathleen Mulkey, Donna Magruder, Mike Magruder, Jennifer Rankin and Brian Rankin, and three great-grandchildren; Steven Mulkey, Katelyn Magruder and Mallory Magruder, other surviving her are one sister, Aileen Sherrill, and a special nephew and wife, Charlie Bob and Dixie Oliver and their family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (6425 NW Cache Road, Suite 102, Lawton, Oklahoma 73505), the First United Methodist Church of Seminole, (P.O. Box 1314, Seminole, Oklahoma 74818) or the charity of your choice. Graveside services will be at 11:00 A.M., Monday, January 16, 2017 at the Cache Cemetery in Cache, Oklahoma, with Rev. Mark Watson, Senior Pastor at the First United Methodist Church of Seminole, Oklahoma. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
