Esteene Scott

Martha “Esteene” (Gurley) Scott, 90 year old longtime Seminole, Oklahoma resident, passed from this life on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at St. Anthony Hospital in Shawnee, Oklahoma.  She was born March 28, 1927 in Seminole to parents Maudie (Combs) Gurley and Evert Millage Gurley. Following high school Esteene went on to attend East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma for 4 years. On September 23, 1947 Esteene married Robert L. Scott in Ada, Oklahoma. Esteene enjoyed quilting, gardening and bird watching. She also collected angels collecting over 1,000 over the years.  Esteene was also a huge baseball fan with her favorite teams being the Texas Rangers and the Atlanta Braves. Esteene worked for Hancock Jewelers in the Seminole Walmart until her retirement. Throughout her life she was a homemaker, loving mother, sister and grandmother. Esteene leaves to cherish her memory, 2 sons, Evert Scott and his wife Rhonda of Seminole, Oklahoma, Phillip Scott and his wife Sarita of Norman, Oklahoma; 1 daughter, Mauda Stephens of Seminole, Oklahoma; 1 sister, Pauline Patterson of Seminole, Oklahoma; 12 grandchildren, Kevin and his wife Kathy, Katherine, Kyle and his wife Michelle, Amy and her husband Chris, Karen and her husband Charles, Brad and his wife Ashly, Jason and his wife Jenilyn, Mallory and her husband JR, Jaclyn and her husband Steven, Jeran and his wife Mikel, Ericka and her husband Chris and Sam and his wife Melonie; 16 Great Grandchildren, Devin and his wife Chastity, Brittany and her husband Josh, Ashlynn and her husband Cory, Kelsey and her husband Shawn, Kris and his wife Paige, Kolby, Kaitlynne, Brady, Ceilara, Thrysten, Jennifer, Clay, Maria, Jacie, Beck and Amelia; 6 great-great grandchildren, Hazen, Hadlee, Kinsley, Cooper, Cesalie and Jayme; 1 sister-in-law, Audrey Young of Arizona; and a host of other family and dear friends. Esteene is preceded in death by her parents, Evert Gurley and Maudie (Combs) Gurley, by her husband Robert L. Scott who died September 10, 1984, by 2 brothers Kenneth Addington and Roy Gurley, by 1 sister Myrtle Addington Jones and by a baby brother, Keith Allen Addington. The family will receive friends at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma on Friday, January 12, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Sharon Baptist Church located at 19002 south Gordon Cooper Drive, Shawnee, Oklahoma with Pastor Clint Dawkins officiating the service.  Interment will follow at Little Cemetery located north of Seminole on Hwy 377. Grandsons will serve as casket bearers. Grandsons and great grandsons will serve as honorary bearers. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
