Essie Juanita Turner, 96, longtime Seminole resident died Thursday, August 11, 2011 at her home in Seminole. She was born December 21, 1914 in Seminole to William Emery Magruder, Sr. and Ethel Pearl (Griffin) Magruder. Essie lived in Seminole all her life attending Seminole Public Schools and graduating from Seminole High School. Essie worked as a bookkeeper for Anthony’s Department Store for over 30 years and finished her working career at the Seminole County Clerks office in Wewoka, Oklahoma working for 11 years. Essie was active in civic affairs in Seminole; she was a member of the B.P.W. (Business Professional Women) serving in all the offices of the organization and was named “ Woman of the Year “. Essie loved ceramics, she taught the art of making ceramics from her shop northwest of Seminole for many years. She also made quilts. She was a member of the Wolf Freewill Baptist Church, and loved her church family and often went fishing and camping with them. She very much enjoyed and loved her family, she always looked forward to holidays and making it special for her family and friends. Essie married Clarence Clayton “ Pee Wee “ Turner on February 6, 1933 in Seminole. He preceded her in death on January 4, 2001. A daughter and son-in-law Glenda and Ronnie Conner of Seminole, Oklahoma and a son and daughter-in-law Raymond D. and Catherine Turner of Guthrie, Oklahoma, survive Essie. A brother and sister-in-law Emery J and Cottie Magruder of Seminole, Oklahoma also survives her. She is survived also by her grandchildren; Rickey Conner and his wife Tammy and Trace Conner and his wife Shelley both of Seminole, Oklahoma and Teri Smith of Edmond, Oklahoma. Also by great-grandchildren Lindsey and Chris Shipman, Anna Smith, Caley Conner, Dr. Andrew Conner, Chlo’e Conner and Chase Conner, and several nieces and nephews. Her parents and husband and two sisters, Jewell Evelyn Wade, Elsie Sconiers, preceded her in death Funeral services will be at 4:00 P.M., Saturday, August 13, 2011 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Allen Wood officiating. Burial will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole. Casket bearers will be her grandchildren.
