Konawa Funeral Home

Ervin "Leo" Lane , age 86 and a long-time resident of Konawa, Oklahoma passed into God’s hands January 29, 2022 at Bellevue Health and Rehab in Oklahoma City.

A graveside service with military honors is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at Konawa Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa.  Richard Winters will officiate.  Visitation will be Monday from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Leo was born New Year’s Eve, December 31, 1935 in Summers Chapel, Oklahoma to Leo Lane and Clara Ruth (Fisher) Lane.  He was a proud graduate of Konawa High School.  He married Patsy Ellen Finch December 23, 1956 at First Baptist Church in Konawa.  Upon Patsy’s graduation, they made their home in Vernal, Utah, where he was employed by Casada Construction which was the place he had worked during the summer of his freshman high school year. He was called to active duty during the Berlin Crisis with the 115th Combat Engineers of Utah.  They were attached to the 6th Army Unit in Ft. Lewis, Washington.  His unit immediately became a STRAC (Skilled, Tough, Ready Around the Clock) force.  Leo was chosen to attend the NCO Academy where he graduated in the top 10% of his class.  From there, he moved on to be a part of the Atomic Demolition Munitions team where they learned to set the land-based atomic bomb.  Upon being honorably discharged from the military, he returned to his home in Vernal.  At that time, he became the field superintendent for the heavy equipment portion of Casada Construction, which was his prior place of employment.  He was a member of the Ashley Valley Masonic Lodge of Vernal.  It was during that time he began to contribute for the purchase of land where he intended to make his home and raise his family.  In 1966, that dream became a reality when the family made their transition from Utah back to Konawa.  He considered it an honor to have served ten years on the Konawa School Board.  At the time of his death, he still assisted with the AFR Insurance Agency, but his main focus was raising cattle alongside his family in the River Bend south of Konawa.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Patsy Lane of the home; two sons, Kevin Lane of Konawa, and David Lane and wife, Tiffany of Byng, Oklahoma; two grandsons, Austin and Kaiden Lane; and numerous nieces and nephews in Oklahoma and Washington.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and two sisters.
