Ervin LeRoy Hanson, 80 year old Seminole resident passed from this life Friday, October 24, 2014 at his home in Seminole. He was born December 15, 1933 in Mobridge, South Dakota to parents, Emil Hanson and Emily (Opheim) Hanson. Hanson stated in his yearbook, class of 1951, “After graduation I went into the Navy. Upon discharge, I studied electronics at Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis. In 1957 I relocated to California where I worked on the Minuteman missile computer as a test engineer. I married Barbara White in 1958 and later had two sons: Steven in 1959, and Michael in 1966. In the early 1970’s we decided we would escape from the California rat race and move to a small town in Oklahoma (Seminole). There was not much demand for people with my background in Oklahoma at this time so we bought a restaurant, which we operated for a few years. In the 1980’s Oklahoma discovered computer controlled machinery so things were good again. I built and repaired computer controlled machines until I retired in 1994. Since then I have been working part time as a consultant. LIFE IS GOOD!” While serving in the United States Navy he earned the National Defense Medal, the Navy Occupation Service Medal and the European Clasp. During Ervin’s career he had worked for North American Rockwell as a Specialist on Minuteman Computers, as the plant manager for the Goff Corp., owned and operated Bev’s Beef and Rye, Jim Cox, Eaton Corp. where he was an electronic engineer until his retirement and he owned Hanson Fence Company, he was also a longtime member of the N.R.A.. Ervin was also a member of the Elks Lodge and the American Legion. He loved his granddaughters very much. He enjoyed shooting pool and doing crossword puzzles.
