Emmitt Leon Coffey

September 29, 1942 — January 14, 2018

Emmitt Leon Coffey, age 75 and a long-time resident of Konawa, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Konawa under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa.  Rev. Pam Shirk will officiate and burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery, east of Konawa.  Casket bearers are Tim Coffey, Marty Coffey, Jeffery Coffey, Stacey Coffey, and Justin Coffey.  Honorary bearers are Andrew Coffey, Ross Coffey, Maurice Smith, Gary Johnson, Conner Keith, and Eddie Coffey. He was born September 29, 1942 in Oklahoma City to David Leon Coffey and Emmitt Lorene (Beller) Coffey.  He graduated from Midwest City, Oklahoma and married Opal “Bernice” Brown October 31, 1964 at Crestview Baptist Church in Oklahoma City.  Emmitt proudly served his county in the 95th Training Division of the U.S. Army Reserves for six years.  He retired as a salesman for J & K Auto Parts Store in Purcell, Oklahoma.  Emmitt loved camping trips to Broken Bow with his family.  He also loved to go hunting and fishing.  He loved making jerky for his children and grandchildren, and he loved harassing his wife. He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Bernice Coffey of the home; five sons, Tim Coffey and wife, Karla of Konawa, Marty Coffey and wife, Stacey of Konawa, Jeffery Coffey and wife, JoElla of Jones, Oklahoma, Stacey Coffey and wife, Amber of Konawa; and Justin Coffey and Lacey Carter of Seminole, Oklahoma; one brother, Eddie Coffey and wife, Enid of Adair, Oklahoma; one sister, Wanda Gross of Guthrie, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren, Andrew Coffey, Kassandra Coffey, Ross Coffey, Autumn Keith, Sahara Coffey, Caitlin Coffey, Emily Coffey, Blake Coffey, Brett Coffey, and Bryce Coffey; and one great grandchild, Braxton Coffey. He was preceded in death by his parents, David Leon Coffey and Emmitt Lorene Coffey. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for donations to be made to the Food Pantry located at Herriman's Store in Konawa.
