Emma "Janice" (Mills) Sapien

Emma “Janice” (Mills) Sapien, age 77 and a resident of Stanton, California, passed away at her daughter’s home in Noble, Oklahoma. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Thursday morning September 14, 2017 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel of Konawa, Oklahoma.  Chaplin Dude Youngblood will officiate and burial will follow at Little Cemetery, north of Seminole, Oklahoma.  Casket bearers are Jeffrey Yamada, Julian Sapien, Eric Mills, Miguel Yamada-Sapien, Thomas Mills, and Cecilia Yamada-Sapien.  Viewing will be held at the funeral home Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Janice was born December 9, 1939 in Konawa to Robert Alvin Mills and Mary Emma (Brinlee) Mills.  She received her Master of Arts Degree from Cal State in Long Beach, California and was a Professor of English as a Second Language at Long Beach City College in Long Beach, California.  Janice married Salvador A. Sapien June 4, 1964 in Torrance, California.  She loved reading, traveling, writing, studying genealogy and studying Civil War history, as well as doing volunteer work.  She was a member of the Magnolia Baptist Church of Anaheim, California. She is survived by her husband, Salvador A. Sapien of Stanton, California; two daughters, Racquel-Maria Sapien of Noble, Oklahoma, and Rebecca L. Sapien of Stanton, California; one sister, Linda J. Abajian of  La Quinta, California; and three grandchildren, Miguel, Cecilia, and Suraya Yamada-Sapien. She was preceded in death by her parents, R.A. and Mary Mills, and one brother, Tom Mills.
