Emery Junior Magruder, age 94 and a former resident of Seminole, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Rose Manor Nursing Center in Shawnee. A Graveside service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the Strother Historical Chapel at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole, Oklahoma under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole. John Baumert will officiate. Casket Bearers are Emery Curtis Magruder, Tim Holt, Tim S. Holt, Jordan Holt, Dirk Holt, and John Baumert. Honorary bearers are Jack Holt, Garrett Evans, Jay Burns, and Greg Loyd. Emery was born January 22, 1924 in Seminole, Oklahoma to William Emery Magruder and Ethel (Griffin) Magruder. He graduated Seminole High School and proudly served his country in the U. S. Air Force. He married Thyra Mae Loyd in October, 1942 in Wichita, Kansas. He worked for several banks in the area and was the Acting Bank President. Emery was a member for the First Baptist Church in Seminole, and he was a member of the Lions Club and the Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of the Seminole School Board. His favorite Bible verses were Psalm 46:10 and Psalm 23. He is survived by one son, Emery Curtis Magruder and wife, Gloria of Seminole; one daughter, Connie J. Holt and husband, Tim of Pryor, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Emery and Ethel Magruder; his wife, Thyra Mae "Cottie" Magruder; and three sisters.
