Elwanda Jackson

January 22, 1931 — July 18, 2021

Elwanda Jacqueline "Jacquie" Guinn Jackson was born in a chicken coop on an icy January night in 1931.  The chicken coop part isn't true but she loved to tell it that way.

She was born January 22, 1931, in Washington, OK to Curtis Russell "Russ" Guinn and Laura Evelyn Mars Guinn.  Jacquie spent her early years in Goldsby and Maud Oklahoma.  At the age of 10, she and her family moved to Ojai, CA.  She graduated from Nordhoff High School in 1949 and not long after, she met Arthur Lee "Al" Jackson.  While waiting for the wedding Al and his brothers built a house and Jacquie worked at the Sunkist plant in Ojai packing oranges to make money to furnish the new home.  They were married April 6, 1951.  In June 1961, the family moved to Maud, OK.

Jacquie enjoyed singing, playing the piano, knitting and especially cooking and baking.  Her cookies and cupcakes were eagerly anticipated at all her kids school functions.  The first year after all the older kids graduated, she received a call from a student.  He asked her to bake for a class function because he couldn't imagine not having her cookies.  She happily baked and decorated for the party.

Jacquie was extremely proud to be a member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation through her great-grandmother Clarissa Peltier Mars McGowen.

Jacquie was proceeded in death by her husband Al, son Franklin Jackson, brothers Russell Gordon Guinn, Clinton Lloyd, sister Mary Ellen Guinn, son-in-law Timothy Jenkins, grandparents Jake and Maggie Cartmill Guinn and Dennis and Peva Smith Mars.

Those left to cherish her memories are daughter Laura Anne Jackson, daughter Karen Jenkins, Son Dennis and daughter-in-law Tadina Jackson, daughter-in-law Joyce Jackson, three grandchildren Jason Jenkins and wife Kymber, Brad Jackson, Kathryn Jackson and great-granddaughter Kadence Jenkins as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
