Elmo Phillips, age 90 and a resident of Konawa, Oklahoma, passed away from this life February 3, 2016 at Norman Regional Hospital in Norman, Oklahoma. A graveside service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 6, 2016, at Vamoosa Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa. Rev. Mitch Williams will officiate. Pallbearers are Johnny Sharber, Billy Sharber, Ted Eberle, Robert Phillips, Tony Mosely, and Tommy Hendrix. Honorary Pallbearers are Dillon Phillips and Bill Raines. The family will receive guests 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday. Elmo was born April 18, 1925 in Konawa to Henry and Lucy (Kelton) Phillips. He was an Army veteran of WWII and was wounded in action receiving a purple heart and a bronze star. He married Eddyth “Rusty” Poston April 2, 1946, in Konawa, and he worked as a truck driver for the State Department of Transportation. Elmo loved to travel the state to eat out, and he loved to go fishing and camping, and to raise a garden to give away to neighbors and friends. He is survived by two sons, Roger Phillips and wife, Linda of Oklahoma City, and Larry Phillips and wife, Dianne also of Oklahoma City; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Lucy Phillips; his wife, Rusty Phillips; one son, Lindell Phillips; four sisters; and two brothers.
