Elma Edith May (Taylor) Smith Mitchell, 93 year-old longtime Maud resident passed from this life Sunday, May 10, 2009 at Seminole Estates Care Center in Seminole, Oklahoma. She was born February 10, 1916 in Oklahoma to parents George Ollie Taylor and Myrtle Carrie Ann (McGill) Taylor.rnrnElma had lived in Saint Louis, Oklahoma for several years before moving to Maud, Oklahoma. Elma was very active in the community and was always willing to lend a hand in any way she could with community events. Elma also was quite a sales woman; she loved to sell Avon and worked as an Avon Representative for many years. She cared for her mother for many years at her home until finally they both relented and her mother went to live at the Sunset Estates Nursing Home in Maud until her death at the age of 97 on January 29,1999. Elma loved eating and fellowshipping with the people at the Senior Citizen Center in Maud.rnrnDuring her time in Maud she married Harvie Mitchell who was also widowed and he preceded her in death on October 21, 2000.rnrnElma is survived by two sons, Gary Chamblin of Ventura, California and Tony Chamblin of Guthrie, Oklahoma; one brother, George Taylor of Eufaula, Oklahoma; one sister, Lara Hice of Rocklin, California; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.rnrnShe is preceded in death by her husband Harvie Mitchell and by one son James Chamblin.rnrnGraveside services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Cummings Cemetery in Maud with Rev.
