Elizabeth Ruth “Liz” Gunter, 75, longtime Seminole resident and educator, died Friday, January 22, 2016 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Elizabeth was born September 28, 1940 in McCamey, Texas to William Wallace and Nancy Ellen (Selby) Littlejohn. She grew up in McCamey, Texas until the 1950’s when she moved to Seminole, where she continued her education at Seminole Public Schools and graduated from Seminole High School in 1958. She attended East Central University where she received her Master of Education degree. Liz taught school at Seminole Public Schools for the entire 32 years of her career, before retiring in 1999. “She was truly a master teacher”. Liz enjoyed playing BUNKO, reading, lunch with her SHS class of 1958 girls, visiting the shut-ins from her church, writing memories of her grandkids in her “Nana book”, traveling, especially to National Parks, fishing, and making gingerbread houses every year for the grandkids. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Seminole, the ladies UMW group, PEO, Seminole Chamber of Commerce (member and volunteer), Self-Culture Club, past member of the Seminole Arts Council, Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, American Association of University Women, and the OEA, NEA Teachers Association. Locally she was a lifetime member of the Seminole Alumni Association and Ducks Unlimited, on the board of trustees for the Jasmine Moran Children’s Museum, Seminole County Retired Teachers, and Volunteer reader for the Seminole Public Library Children’s Story Hour. She married Herbert Dee “Herb” Gunter on October 1, 1960 in Seminole, Oklahoma. Liz is survived by her husband of 55 years, Herb Gunter of Seminole, her two daughters, Sonia Scott of Seminole, Oklahoma, Carrie Nault and her husband Kyle of Ardmore, Oklahoma, four grandchildren Colby Scott of Seminole, Oklahoma, Katie Scott of Seminole, Oklahoma, Kyla Nault of Frisco, Texas and P.T. Nault of Pasadena, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Nancy Hargis, son-in-law Tom Scott, aunts Hazel Colby and June and Bob Davis. Funeral services will at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church on Wrangler Blvd. in Seminole, Oklahoma, with Rev. Clint Dawkins and Rev. Gary O. Wilburn officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole. Casket bearers will be Kyle Nault, P.T. Nault, Colby Scott, Rodney May, Bill Hooten and Dustin Holliday.
