Elizabeth Gates

Elizabeth "Betty" Charlotte Edmunds Gates, age 87, and longtime Seminole resident, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 14, 2017. Betty was born on November 13, 1929 in Wallingford, Vermont to parents George F. Edmunds and Mary P. (Jacobs) Edmunds. Betty married Ervin F. Gates on June 16, 1948 at the Warrensburg Methodist Church in Warrensburg, New York. Betty is survived by her husband of 69 years, Ervin F. Gates of the home, five children: Kathryn Brown of Venice, Florida, Mary Wolling and her husband Rev. Richard Wolling of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Bryon E. Gates and wife Susan of Seminole, Oklahoma, Barbara A. Bartlett and husband Michael of Collinsville, Oklahoma and George S. Gates and wife Lisa of Seminole, Oklahoma. She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren, thirty-seven great grandchildren, and one brother, Douglas Edmunds of Argyle, New York. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and brothers: Ralph Edmunds, James Edmunds, Kenneth Edmunds and sister: Ruth Raymond. A Celebration of Betty’s life will be held at Immanuel Fellowship Church in Seminole, Oklahoma on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dr. Richard Wolling officiating assisted by Pastor Tim Tate. Casket bearers will be her grandsons; Thomas Gates, Matthew Gates, Johnathan Gates, Jarrod Wood, Daniel Wood and Kevin Wood. Honorary bearers will be; David Wood, Jason Wolling, Zachary Wolling, Charles Blaisdell and Aron Blaisdell. The family will receive visitors at Swearingen Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 from 6 to 8 PM. The casket will remain open until service time and will not be reopened. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
