Elbert Edwin “Tom“ Brown, 89, lifelong Seminole resident, died Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at his home in Seminole. Elbert was born on May 25, 1925 in Seminole County to Annie Bell (Robertson) and Edward Frank Brown, he was the youngest of twelve children. Elbert attended Twin Oak grade school and Varnum High School where he graduated and later attended Seminole Junior College and Northeastern State College in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Elbert excelled at baseball and basketball throughout his school years. After high school and as soon as he became 18 he enlisted in the United States Navy. He was assigned to the U.S.S. Calvert which was the first ship to take occupation troops to Hiroshima after the atomic bomb ended World War II. Elbert started working at Sun Oil Company in 1951 and retired in 1987 as operations foreman of the Seminole office. After his retirement from Sun Oil, he enjoyed raising, conditioning and training running quarter horses. He looked forward to spending time at the races with family and friends from around the state. Elbert was a longtime member of Church of Christ at Litte, Oklahoma. Elbert married Betty (DeShazo) Brown on August 18, 1951 in Seminole, Oklahoma and celebrated 63 wonderful years this past year. Elbert is survived by his wife Betty Brown of the Home, three daughters; Deborah Cornelison and her husband Mike of Ada, Oklahoma, Rebecca Dulworth and her husband Ron of Seminole, Oklahoma and Angela Holmberg and her husband Bill of Edmond, Oklahoma., four grandchildren, Eric Cornelison, Ryan Dulworth, Courtney Dulworth and Danny Holmberg, four great- grandchildren; Jake Cornelison, Nate Summers, Max Cornelison and Hannah Ingram. He is also survived by nieces and nephews; Teresa Ashcraft, Deloris Jackson, Colleen Peepers, Dick Kernal, Gene Kernal, Karen Kerfoot, Jeff Sarvash and Steve Sarvash, Cathy Brandenstein, Mike Brown, Pat Brown and the Brown families in Washington State and Canada. He was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters, Lucy Chandler, Faye Lawson, Tressie Quimby, Bessie Kernal, May Miller and Maude Sarvash, three brothers Ona, Eddie and Delbert and two siblings that died in infancy. Funeral services will be 10:30, Monday, December 15, 2014 at the Church of Christ at Little with U.S. Naval honors. Rusty Dawson and Chris Stinnett will officiate at the service. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Mike Cornelison, Ron Dulworth, Bill Holmberg, Eric Cornelison, Ryan Dulworth and Danny Holmberg.
