Edward R. VanHorn, 68 year-old resident of Maud, Oklahoma passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Seminole, Oklahoma. Edward was born on December 21, 1943 in Mohawk, New York to parents Lynn VanHorn and Mary (Erb) VanHorn. Edward worked in Civil Construction for the City of Mohawk, New York as a Motor Grader Operator. While in Mohawk, New York, Edward served on the school board, he also owned and operated his own gun shop, served as a 32nd degree Mason and was of the Episcopal faith. Edward married Hilda (Youngs) VanHorn in Town of Ohio, New York on March 19, 1982. Edward moved to Maud, Oklahoma four years ago from Mohawk, New York. Edward possessed a great love for hunting, fishing and spontaneous adventures. He loved to meet new people and make everyone laugh each and everyday. He was a loving father, grandfather and a devoted husband. Edward loved life and he lived it well. Edward is survived by his wife, Hilda, two daughters; Tania Jackson of McLoud, Oklahoma, Tami Markessinis of Albany, New York. He is also survived by two brothers Chuck and James VanHorn both of Oregon and one sister Elaine Kreuger of North Carolina. Four grand children also survive Edward, Danielle Mackey ,Alexandria Jackson and Victoria Jackson all of McLoud, Oklahoma and Nicholas Markessinis of Albany, New York. Edward was preceded in death by his parents; Lynn and Mary VanHorn and half brother Gerald. A private funeral service for Edward will be held 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.
