Shawnee resident Edward Allen Turnbow, Sonny, passed away Friday, June 17, 2022, at his home.
Sonny, the son of Rufus Allen Turnbow and Helen Berniece (Harjo) Tatum, was born January 6, 1965, in Shawnee. He graduated high school with the Maud High School class of 1983. Sonny worked in the oil field most of his life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, cooking, winning big at the casino, and watching Oklahoma State football.
Sonny was an uncle to everyone and loved his grandkids more than anything. He took pride in providing for his family and friends and made sure that anyone in need was taken care of. He taught the younger generations how to fish, hunt, and harvest game. He cared for the elders when he was in good health and taught the young people in his family to do the same. Sonny was a proud Seminole and lived his life true to their ways.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen Tatum and Rufus Turnbow; brother, Andrew Turnbow; former wife, Robin Turnbow; and brother-in-law, Jeremy Culver.
Sonny is survived by his son, James Turnbow, and Samantha Hinman, of the home; daughters and son-in-law, Bessie Turnbow and Ian Adams of Shawnee, Melanie and Brad Smith of Tecumseh, and Racheal Stanberry of Konawa,; one brother, Jimmy Tatum; three sisters, Cecelia and Brian Akerman, Felicia and Jason Sheer, of Gold Canyon, Arizona, and Latisha Culver of Shawnee; grandchildren, Bryson Smith, Kyra Stanberry, Owbba Williams, Tava Williams, and Oliver Adams; and many other family and friends.
Casket bearers will be Heston Hawkins, Brad Smith, Ian Adams, Marshall Turnbow, Brandon Akerman, Xadrian Culver, Tafv Berryhill, and Jimmy Tatum. Honorary casket bearers are Lindsey Bondani, Ricky Aderholt, Danny Huckleberry, James Votaw, Jim Marty, Jason Sheer, Barry O’Daniel, Hunter Bruce and Timmy Holahta.
The will be a wake service Wednesday, June 22, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 P.M., at the Swearingen Funeral Home, in Seminole.
Services will be Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 10:00 A.M., at the Swearingen Funeral Chapel, in Seminole. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
