Edva Lou (Shields) Bland, 90 year-old longtime, Seminole County resident, passed from this life Wednesday, December 26, 2012 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. She was born February 20, 1922 in Holdenville, Oklahoma to parents Johnnie Elmer Shields and Myrtle Ann (Morphis) Shields. On May 7, 1940 Edva married William Edgar “Bill” Bland in Okemah, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on February 2005. Edva had worked for Tinker Air Force Base in Midwest City, Oklahoma until her retirement in 1987. Mrs. Bland leaves to cherish her memory three sons, Billy Bland (Ouida) of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Bobby Bland (Carol) of Maud, Oklahoma and Jimmy Bland (Cheryl) of Choctaw, Oklahoma; six daughters, Linda Horn of Choctaw, Oklahoma, Lou Ellen Mullings (Wayne) of Maud, Oklahoma, Patty Bland of Seminole, Oklahoma, Peggy Huff (Eugene) of Choctaw, Oklahoma, Charlotte Gregory (Tony) of McLoud, Oklahoma, and Pamela Goodin (Jimmy) of Davis, Oklahoma; one sister, Nina Hassell (Don) of Wewoka, Ok; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a host of other family and dear friends. Edva is preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie and Myrtle Shields; her husband of almost 65 years, William “Bill” Bland; one brother, Horace Shields; one daughter-in-law, Anna Bland; and by one son-in-law, Bob Horn. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:30 a.m., Friday, December 28, 2012 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma. Rev. Carl Whitfield will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Holdenville City Cemetery. Casket Bearers will be: Dwayne Bland, Lance Bland, Robbie Horn, Jimmy Bland, Tracy Mullings, Scott Goodin, Phillip Goodin, Casey Goodin and Tony Gregory.
