Edna Mae (Merchant) Cagle, longtime Seminole resident, entered Heaven’s gates Tuesday, November 18, 2014; she enjoyed 88 years. Edna was born December 15, 1925 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Jake Grady and Thelma (King) Merchant. On July 14, 1946 she married Tony Cagle, Sr. in Oklahoma, he entered Heaven’s gates on September, 2, 2008. Edna received an Associate’s degree from Eastern Oklahoma A&M. She retired from Seminole County Department of Human Services after working there for many years. She was a member of the congregational Methodist Church and while she was able to attend, she was the church pianist and adult Sunday school teacher. She was a Bible scholar, she loved looking up scriptures referenced in sermons then applying them to her life. She was also an avid bird watcher. Known as “Mimi” to all her grandchildren, even in her last days, that term brought joy and brightness to her face when she heard it. Edna leaves to cherish her memory, one son and daughter-in-law, Tony Cagle, Jr and Nancy of Shawnee, Oklahoma; one daughter and son-in-law, Cyndy Johnson and Lewis of Wewoka, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Amy Roberts and her husband Corey, Brandy Wilson and her husband Greg, Tony Cagle III, Shawna Hatter and her husband Matthew and Kimberly Almeida and her husband Henrique; nine great grandchildren, Logan Roberts, Connor Roberts, Hallie Wilson, Mason Wilson, Adysyn Cagle, Annleigh Cagle, Blake Hatter, Brennon Hatter and Lynli Claire Almeida, as well as other dear family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 62 years, Tony Cagle, Sr., and her only sibling, a sister, Dorris Ann Reed. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 21, 2014 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma with Darrell Witten, chaplain of Heartland Hospice officiating. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery just north of Seminole, Oklahoma. An open casket visitation will take place until just prior to funeral services on Friday morning, afterwhich the casket will be closed and remain so. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Wewoka Nursing Center and Heartland Hospice for the exceptional and loving care of their mother and grandmother.
