Earlene (Fine) Selfridge

Earlene (Fine) Selfridge passed away January 25th, 2024, in the early morning at Saint Anthony’s in Shawnee, with her beloved son Don Selfridge Jr., her granddaughter and great grandchildren by her side.

Earlene was born to her parents Dewy and Ella Fine in Lawton Oklahoma on November 14th, 1935. She and her siblings grew up in a large loving family. Even at an early age she helped provide for her family by working in the cotton fields.  After her father’s tragic death, caused by a drunk driver when Earlene was very young, she took extra responsibilities to make sure her mother and siblings were cared for.

Donald Selfridge met and fell madly in love with Earlene, while at a movie theater in Seminole. After that their fate was to be together always.  Donald and Earlene were married August 3rd, 1955, in Lawton Oklahoma.  They had four children Karen Selfridge, Ella (Teresa) Selfridge, Don Selfridge Jr. and Lisa Earlene Selfridge. They adored their children and were proud of everything they accomplished and stood by them always.

Earlene loved gardening when she and Don Sr. lived in the country at Sasakwa.  She not only grew lovely flower gardens, but she also had a vegetable garden, apple trees and pear trees, and she would love picking fresh food to feed her family. They also had chickens, cows and a much-loved goat. Photography was a great interest to her as well, she took a photography class that she enjoyed. She was very stylish not only in her graceful fashion choices but also her elegant home decor.

Earlene was always with her children and grandchildren celebrating their achievements, supporting their goals and by their side even at their weakest moments. One of her favorite things to do was to support her children and grandchildren on the courtside or on the field. She enjoyed watching her daughters Karen, Teresa and granddaughter Kristi playing basketball, her son, Don Jr. playing baseball and basketball, and her granddaughter Cadence excelling at soccer. She loved cooking with Lilu and Valek and she spent hours facetiming Lucien. No matter how far away we were from her, if we needed her she would be there always.

Earlene was a kind, smart, strong and loving woman, who was adored by her husband Don Sr., her children, Karen, Teresa, Don Jr., and Lisa. As well as by her three grandchildren; Janiece, Kristi, and Cadence and four great grandchildren; Valek, Lilu, Lucien and Kyla.

Memories that will be forever cherished are ones filled with her/our happiest moments. The sound of her laughing, the songs sung while she cooked, the sight of her tending to her garden, sharing her excitement every year as her morning glories and four o' clocks bloomed.  All of these and many more memories that are too many to count, will live on forever inside our hearts. Earlene blessed many with her presence and brought much joy to those who knew her and will forever be loved.

She leaves to cherish her memory Don Jr., Lisa, Janiece, Kristi, Cadence, Valek, Lilu, Lucien, Kyla, her sister Laura, nephews Craig, Mark and Andy. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Sr., parents Dewy and Ella, her daughters Karen and Teresa, brothers JR, Lester, Albert, her sisters Mickey, Retha and Trudy and her in-laws Fred, Opal, Bill, Tina, Ella Mae, Julie, Jeanette, Tina May, Annie and Mike.

We will celebrate Earlene’s life, Friday February 2, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole Oklahoma with Jimmy Moreland officiating.  Burial will follow at Little Cemetery.
