Dwaine “Wayne” Francis O’Connor, age 62 and a resident of Konawa, Oklahoma died on Friday, January 15, 2010, at Colonial Estates Nursing Home in Shawnee, Oklahoma. A Rosary is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 17th at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa, Oklahoma. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 18th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Konawa. Fr. Joe Arledge, O.S.B. and Fr. Adrian Vorderlandwehr, O.S.B. will officiate. Burial will follow with Military Honors at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery. Wayne was born on July 31, 1947, in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Vera Naomi (West) and Garland Leo O’Connor. Wayne moved to Konawa from Shawnee in 1997. He graduated from St. Benedict’s High School in Shawnee. He was a long-time member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Konawa. Wayne served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1970 and served in Germany and Vietnam. Wayne was a carpenter by profession. He is survived by his mother, Vera Naomi (West) O’Connor of Konawa, Oklahoma; four brothers, Gene Thomas O’Connor of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Steven Lawrence O’Connor of Konawa, Oklahoma, Hal Edward O’Connor of Shawnee, Oklahoma, and Lee “Victor” O’Connor of Konawa, Oklahoma; five sisters, Mary Ann Arledge and husband, Jim of Newalla, Oklahoma, Margaret Ellen Atchley and husband, Frederic of Apopka, Florida, Janice Marie Floyd and husband, Russell of Konawa Oklahoma, Jo Ann O’Connor of Konawa, Oklahoma, and Loretta Pamela O’Connor of Shawnee, Oklahoma; and a host of nieces and nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Garland Leo O’Connor.
