Dr. Cal Hunter

Dr. Clarence “Cal” Hunter, 86 year-old Paden, Oklahoma resident went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, April 8, 2013 from his earthly home in Paden, Oklahoma.  He was born February 2, 1927 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas to parents Mary Adline (Brammer) Hunter and Clarence Hunter, Sr. Dr. Cal is a retired pastor and Director of Missions.  He holds a BA Degree from Oklahoma Baptist University, did two years of graduate studies in clinical psychology at Baylor University, completed four years of medical school at Carver (now Logan Chiropractic College) where he earned his DC Degree. After 8 years of clinical practice, Dr. Cal felt led to enter the ministry.  He served East Side Baptist Church, Marlow, Oklahoma for two years; First Baptist Church, Tipton, Oklahoma for 11 years; First Baptist Church of Mooreland, Oklahoma for 8 years.  In 1986, Dr. Cal became the Director of Missions for Northwestern Baptist Foundation with offices in Woodward, Oklahoma, where he served until he retired in 1991. Dr. Cal also served in the United States Army where he held the rank of Staff Sergeant serving in World War II.  He earned the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, the World War II Victory Medal and the Philippine Independence Ribbon. In retirement, Dr. Cal continued active in ministry.  He served as part-time pastor of Wolf Baptist Church, Seminole, Oklahoma, for four years.  He was then called to minister at Highway Baptist Church in Seminole where he served until his second retirement in 2007. In 2003, Dr. Cal went back to school.  In 2007, after three years of arduous study, he earned his Doctor of Religious Studies degree from Trinity Theological Seminary in Newberg, Indiana, and in 2013 he received his PhD, also from Trinity. Dr. Cal and his wife, Susie, made their home in Paden, Oklahoma.  Dr. Cal continued to conduct lectures and seminars on the subject of his books and preached occasionally as a supply preacher until his death. Dr. Cal was a licensed, instrument rated airplane pilot with almost 1600 hours flight time.  He was also an Amateur Radio Operator (Ham) with advanced license. In October of 1958, Dr. Cal married Wilma “Jean” (Jamison) in Wichita Falls, Texas.  Sadly she preceded him in death on March 23, 2009.  He later married “Susie” (Clonts) Leonard on January 4, 2010 in Paden, Oklahoma. Dr. Cal leaves to cherish his memories, his wife Susie Hunter of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Cindy Hunter of Owasso, Oklahoma, Rick and Carol Hunter of Prague, Oklahoma; one step-son, Kevin Belford of Meeker, Oklahoma; one brother and sister-in-law, Weldon and Doris Snow of Ramona, California; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and a host of other family and dear friends. Dr. Cal is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Alvin Hunter and Pete Snow and his wife of 50 years Jean Hunter who passed away March 23, 2009. The family will be receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole. Funeral services with military honors are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Highway Baptist Church north of Seminole with Dr. Don Chaffin and Rev. Dick McClure officiating the service.  Interment will follow at Little Cemetery. Casket Bearers will be: Chad Jackson, Rick Hunter, Mike Hunter, Kelly Joplin, Chris Holland and Owen Gibson. Honorary Bearers will be: Dean Anderson, Butch Pinson, Gerald Carter, Randall Hunter and Craig Hobbs. The family requests that donations be sent to the Lottie Moon Foreign Missions, the Gideon International Organization or to the charity of your choice in memory of Dr. Cal Hunter. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
