Dortha L. (Smith) Howard

April 6, 1935 — November 24, 2013

Dortha L. Howard, 78, lifelong Seminole resident, died Sunday, November 24, 2013 in Seminole. Dortha was born April 6, 1935 in Seminole, Oklahoma to Eva (Pease) and William Smith.   Dortha graduated from Seminole High School and attended college. She worked for the State of Oklahoma, Department of Human Services for over 31 years as a social worker and supervisor. She attended the First United Methodist Church in Seminole for many years and was a former member of the Seminole B.P.W. professional women’s organization. She loved cake decorating and was a member of the Ice’s club.   She married Harley Howard on February 11, 1955 in Seminole, Oklahoma.   She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Harley Howard of Seminole, Oklahoma, two sons; Keith Allen Howard of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl., and Delbert Kirk Howard of Allen, Texas, along with her brother Delbert Smith of Atoka, Oklahoma and her two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.   Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, November 29, 2013 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating, burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.   Casket bearers will be Jack Mattingly, Sr., Denver Johnson, Kenneth Howard, Clancy Phillips, Joe Reed and Harold Ellison.   Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
