Donna Sue Gunter

Donna Sue (Southern) Gunter, 69 year old Seminole, Oklahoma resident, passed from this life on October 2, 2016 at St. Anthony Hospital in Shawnee, Oklahoma.  Donna was born January 15, 1947 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to parents Raymond “Bunny” Southern and Dortha (Repsher) “Ricky” Southern. Donna worked for the Department of Human Services for many years.  She would often joke and say her goal was to work for D.H.S. in all 77 counties in Oklahoma before retiring.  She started in Osage County D.H.S. office in 1973, transferred to Okmulgee County D.H.S., Tulsa County D.H.S., Hughes County D.H.S. Seminole County Child Welfare and Pottawatomie County office of juvenile affairs (Central Oklahoma Juvenile Treatment Center) better known as COJAC from where she retired in 1999. On May 4, 1963 Donna married the love of her life Richard L. Gunter in Okmulgee, Oklahoma.  Sadly he died in an automobile accident on May 22, 2008. Donna was a woman of strong spirit, who overcame many obstacles in life.  She had one leg amputated during the time she was working at Seminole County Department of Human Service.  Then because of circulation problems the other leg had to be amputated shortly after her retirement.  Even though she had been labeled handicap she was an overcomer.  She equipped her van so she could go anywhere she pleased.  She was a very generous person who would do anything she could to help her friends.  She loved technology and kept up with what was going on via the internet.  To know Donna was to love Donna.  She loved her family with everything she had. She leaves to cherish her memories, one son and daughter-in-law, Richard “Ritch” Gunter, Jr. and his wife Tanya Gunter of Wewoka, one daughter, Rhonda (Gunter) Kanard of the home in Seminole, Oklahoma, three sisters, Vicky Mosco and her husband Eddie of Henryetta, Oklahoma, Cleta Southern of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, Veta Repsher of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, two grandsons, Bailey Gunter and J.T. Gunter, two great grandchildren, Braylee Gunter and Taylor Mimms.  Donna is also survived by a host of other family and dear friends. Donna was preceded in death by her parents Raymond “Bunny” Southern and Dortha “Ricky” Southern.  Donna was also preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Richard Gunter, Sr. who died May 22, 2008. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 6, 2016 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma with Bill Chesser officiating the service.  Interment will follow at Little Cemetery in Seminole County, Oklahoma. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m., until 8:00 p.m. at Swearingen Funeral home in Seminole, Oklahoma. Casket Bearers will be: Bailey Gunter, Kevin Merriman Sr., Josh Merriman, Ronnie Been Jr., Kevin Merriman Jr., and Eddie Mosco. Honorary Casket Bearers will be: Taylor Mimms, J.T. Gunter, William Chesser, Tony Powell, and Braylee Gunter. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
