Donald Pope

“For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” Philippians 1:21 Donald L. Pope, 80, of Jonesborough, Tennessee died February 11, 2016 in the presence of Norma, his wife of over 55 years, following a decade long battle with cancer.  Family who have preceded him: His parents, Charlie and Lillie M. Pope, his brothers, Charles Pope and DeWayne B. Pope, and his sister, Omaha Peterson. Donald is survived by his wife, Norma Pope of the home, sons: Nathan W. Pope, his wife Dr. Ting Wu-Pope and their son, Roger W. Pope; and son, Carleton N. Pope, his wife, Dora Lee Pope, their sons, Carleton N. Pope II and Austin A. Pope, and daughter, Jessica Bond. Donald graduated from Capitol Hill High School in Oklahoma City and Oklahoma City University.  Donald was employed by Human and Health Service in Rockville, Maryland for 25 years. He began at the Indian Health Service, ending his career as a branch chief at the Administrative Services Center. One of Donald’s greatest joys in life was to study God’s word and to teach it to others. Being a native of Oklahoma, he chose to be buried near Seminole, Oklahoma where a number of his family are buried.  A graveside service was held there on Friday, February 19, 2016. A Memorial Service will be held at the Church that Donald faithfully attended until his health prevented him, Living Word Church of God in Gray, Tennessee.  Rev. Steve Guinn, will officiate the service, the time to be announced later. The family wishes to thank Pastor and Mrs. Guinn for their loving care as well as the many members of the congregation who called, sent cards, or visited.  Special thanks go to our wonderful neighbors, Mrs. Joanne Kyker and Jerry and Jennie Hylton and their children Emily and Ethan and dear friends, Jewel Garland and Joe David and Debbie Favila.  The family is also grateful for the care Donald received from Amedisys Hospice of Elizabethton, Tennessee, in particular Corey Garland and Dawn Story.
