Don Gilleland was born on June 14, 1932 to Jesse and Marjorie (Arnwine) Gilleland in Seminole, Oklahoma. He passed away into the glory land of heaven on Friday, February 8, 2019 at the age of 86. Don attended Seminole High School and was co-captain of the 1949 Seminole football team and they were state championship runners up. He was inducted into the first class of the Seminole High School Alumni Hall of Fame. Don married his beloved wife Lois on January 2, 1949 in Holdenville, Oklahoma. Don was branch manager for the Federal Aviation Administration for 31 years and one day. After retiring, they moved to their home on Lake Eufaula. Don has three children who survive him; his son, Don E. Gilleland and his wife Marlene, and two daughters; Kathy McGinley and her husband Steve and Laurie Nevins and her husband Mike. Don and Lois had eight grandchildren; Jeff Gilleland and his wife Sheri, Jamie Boren and her husband Scott, Kelly Means and her husband John, Brian Creach and his wife Lelia, Brett Creach and his wife Michelle, Sean McGinley and his wife Julianne, Lindsey Chapman and her husband Greg and Kyle Nevins and his wife Jennifer. They had 18 great grandchildren. Don was a devoted believer of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was a wonderful husband, father, granddad and great grandad. Don was preceded in death by his parents, sister Patricia Hilgendorf, his wife Lois and great grandson, Logan Gilleland. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma with burial following in Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole, Oklahoma. Tim Turner and Clay Turner will officiate the service. Special music will be presented by great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Gilleland. Casket bearers are Jeff Gilleland, Brian Creach, Brett Creach, Kyle Nevins, Sean McGinley and Payton Means. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Don. Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma is in charge of arrangements.
