Donald L. Chesser, 92, longtime Seminole resident, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2020 in Norman , Oklahoma. Don was born February 22, 1928 in Seminole, Oklahoma to Loyd Chesser and Cratie (Combs) Chesser. Don grew up in Seminole and attended Varnum school, then transferred to Seminole High School where he graduated. After graduation, he attended the University of Oklahoma before joining the United States Army in 1950. He served two years at Fort Hood as a supply sergeant. Don was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time at Firelake Golf Course in Shawnee, Oklahoma. His golf buddies always referred to him as “Big Cheese”. Another hobby he enjoyed was playing pool with his friends. He was a very active member of the First Baptist Church in Seminole, where he enjoyed cooking for the Wednesday night services and other special meals. Family and friends were very important to him and he always enjoyed spending time with them. Don was the owner of Chesser’s Grocery Store on Strother Street in Seminole for many years. Don was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Patricia Chesser on January 1, 1971, his brothers-in-law; Owen Melton and Bill Clark and brother-in-law and sister-in-law; Harry and Margaret Hoover. Don is survived by two sons; Steve Chesser of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Chris Chesser of Seminole, Oklahoma, his daughter Dawn Eaves and her husband Danny of Vian, Oklahoma, two sisters; Nema Melton and Ola Mae Clark, his seven grandchildren; Adam Collamore and his wife Caitlin, Whitney Collamore, Dara Chesser, Hannah Uhl and her husband Jeffrey, Abby Chesser, Kandace Smith and her husband Brian and Clint Eaves and his wife Jessica. Five great grandchildren; Max Collamore, Ella Collamore, Winston Collamore, Kinzley Eaves and Anna Kate Eaves. Private Family Graveside Services will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole, with a Celebration of Life Service planned with a Military Farewell Salute at a later date and place to be determined. Doug Melton will officiate at the memorial services. Arrangements for the memorial service are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
