Don Ray Yancey, 77 year old, long time Seminole resident passed from this life Sunday, February 2, 2014 in Porum, Oklahoma. He was born October 14, 1936 in Seminole to parents Richard Alonzo Yancey and Lillie Mae (Ross) Yancey. He had recently moved to Porum, Oklahoma this past summer to stay with his youngest daughter and that’s where he resided until his death. Don attended Seminole Public Schools. As a young man he served in the United States Army and was a member of the 82nd Airborne Army Paratroopers for three years. Don married Neoma Kathryn Phillips on April 12, 1957. They had three children together. Neoma preceded Don in death on September 1, 1960. A couple of years later he met the love of his life Glenda “Jolene” (Hendricks) Yancey. Don and Jolene (and children) were married on November 13, 1969 in Ada, Oklahoma. To this union four additional children were born. Jolene Yancey preceded Don in death on January 16, 2006. Two infant sons Joseph and Cliffy Yancey and Don’s parents Richard and Lilly Yancey, two brothers and two sisters also preceded Don in death. Don was of the Baptist faith. He loved to spend time reading his bible and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and family. Don had spent over 30 years in the oilfield. He enjoyed his work and was excited to talk about it. After his retirement in 2002 he certainly missed his work. Don is survived by three daughters, Brenda Trammell and her husband Darrell of Porum, Oklahoma, Sharon Johnson of Haughton, Louisiana, Donna Thompson and her husband Ronald of Holdenville, Oklahoma; also a very special young lady, Sydney Yancey, whom was just like a daughter and whom he helped raise and was his sunshine; two sons, Phillip Yancey of Atlanta, Georgia and Kevin Yancey of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; along with three brothers, Carl Yancey and his wife Winnie of Seminole, Oklahoma and Clint Yancey and his wife Linda of Seminole, Oklahoma and Bobby Yancey of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one sister, Mary Allen and her husband Wayne of Wewoka, Oklahoma. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and a host of other family and dear friends. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 10, 2014 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma with Dr. Carol Hopper officiating. Interment will follow at Little Cemetery located north of Seminole. Casket Bearers will be: Michael Lane, Roy Slawson, Kevin Yancey, Gabe Lowe, Phillip Yancey and Gary Yancey. Honorary Bearers will be: Darrell Trammell, Ronald Thompson, Clint Yancey and Chad Smith. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
