Don Wheeler

Donald William “Don” Wheeler, 74 year old Shawnee, Oklahoma resident, passed from this life on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at his home in Shawnee surrounded by his loving family.  He was born August 1, 1943 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to parents Viola Kathelene (Brooks) Wheeler and Ira Daniel Wheeler. Don grew up in Wewoka, Oklahoma and spent most of his life in the Seminole and Shawnee areas. Don served in the United States Army National Guard where he was a rifle marksman. On February 20, 1970 Don married Bonnie Lounell Lanham in Holdenville, Oklahoma. Don was a carpenter and an ordained minister and had pastored the Lords Lighthouse Church in Seminole, Oklahoma for eleven years.  He was a member of Cornerstone Assembly of God Church in Shawnee. Don loved to sing gospel music and preach God’s word. He loved to work with wood and enjoyed making all kinds of crafts.  He loved being around his family and loved to talk to people about the Lord. Don leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 47 years, Bonnie Wheeler of the home; one son, Shane Wheeler and his wife Amy of Bethany, Oklahoma; three daughters, Amy Dawn Johnson and her husband Scott of Moore, Oklahoma, Anjalia Lynn Miller of Sullivan, Missouri, Kay Carter of Shawnee, Oklahoma; one brother, DeWayne Wheeler and his wife Patty of Edmond, Oklahoma; one sister, Danna Wade of Austin, Texas; 17 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and a host of other family and dear friends. Don is preceded in death by his parents Ira Daniel and Viola Kathelene Wheeler and by his mother and father-in-law, Ray and Bonnie Lanham. Funeral services with Military Honors will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole with Bro. David Peters officiating the service.  Interment will follow at Bohannon Cemetery located south of Stuart, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
