Don Haigwood

Don Michael Haigwood, 87 year-old, longtime Seminole resident passed from this life Thursday, April 14, 2011 at his home in Seminole.  He was born December 2, 1923 in Bristow, Oklahoma to parents Jake Lee Haigwood and Florence (Rous) Haigwood. Don grew up in Seminole and graduated from Seminole High School before serving in the United States Army where he was a Staff Sergeant.  He later worked as a heavy equipment operator for East Bay Municipal Utilities District in Oakland, California. Don returned to Seminole from Oakland, California 47 years ago to retire. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Socorro Haigwood of Ripon, California; three daughters and a son-in-law, Darlene and Bill Reuss of Redwood City, California, Donna Wilson of Seminole, Oklahoma and Mary Haigwood of Seminole, Oklahoma; one brother and sister-in-law, McHenry and Iverne Haigwood of Vallejo, California; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and a host of other family and dear friends. Don is preceded in death by his parents; his former wife and the mother of his children, Reda McElhiney who died in 1995; one brother, Jake Haigwood; three sisters, Margaret Langston, Clarabelle Thomason and Florence Wilson. Funeral Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 18, 2011 at the Lord’s Community Church in Seminole with Pastor James Moreland officiating the service.  Interment will follow at Little Cemetery with Military Honors. Casket Bearers will be: Caimen Williams, Joseph Pohlemann, Sonny Price, Mitch Price, Robert Treat and Bob Herron. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
