DIXIE SMITH Funeral services for long-time Seminole resident Dixie Mae Smith have been scheduled for Friday at 10 a.m. at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole. Services will conclude at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Little Cemetery. Chris Stinnett, minister of the Seminole Church of Christ, will officiate. Dixie, age 94, died Tuesday at Avonlea Cottage Assisted Living Center in Shawnee. Born on August 29, 1915 to Arthur and Frankie Royal in McMillan, Oklahoma, Dixie and her family moved to the community of Little, north of Seminole, in 1933. She was a graduate of Prairie Valley High School and the Shawnee Beauty School. She married Thomas Wesley Smith on September 3, 1939 After working as a beauty operator for several years in Seminole, Dixie spent most of her adult life as a homemaker. She was a talented artist and seamstress. Dixie was a long-time member of the Church of Christ in Seminole, where she taught children’s Bible classes and was in charge of coordinating the preparation of meals for funeral services. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Shirley Jean and Roy Carter; three grandchildren: Jason Carter, Jared Carter and Jamie Laurent; and three great-grandchildren: Joshua Wesley Carter, Keyshawn Laurent and Kaliah Laurent. Other survivors include one sister: Hazel Reynolds; two nieces: Linda Helbach and Lana Reynolds; and one nephew, Dan Reynolds. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one sister, Mable Jackson. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
