Dewey Wright was taken home to be with his Lord on, Thursday, August 18, 2011. He was born October 24, 1926 at Highland Junction in Seminole County to Dewey E. Wright and Argie (Harris) Wright. Dewey married Eloise J. Colvin on March 17, 1952 in Atoka, Oklahoma and was married for 45 years before her untimely death on March 22, 1997. They had one son, Larry Wright. Dewey was raised in Wolf, Oklahoma and attended Wolf High School and graduated from East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant. Dewey began his professional career as both a teacher and coach at Butner High School and later at Cromwell High School. After leaving the teaching profession, he was part owner of an underground telephone construction firm before embarking on his long time passion of home building and real estate developing. Dewey built at least 100 homes in such additions as Dixon Green Acres, Eastgate Village I and II, Green Meadows, Quail Run, Southgate, and Greenbriar. Later in life, he became a real estate broker and assisted the public in selling many houses in the Seminole area. Dewey spent his whole life in the service of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was saved in 1941 and baptized at the Bowlegs Baptist Church. Dewey was a lifelong member of the Wolf Baptist Church and later attended the First Baptist Church of Seminole, Oklahoma. He was an adult Sunday school teacher for over 40 years and conducted several bible study classes in his home while also writing several essays on some of his favorite bible topics. Dewey was a very loving and giving father and grandfather. He was an avid golfer and played as long as he was physically able. He also was an avid baseball fan and had a passion for working in his yard and always had a well-manicured lawn. Dewey is survived by one son and daughter-in-law Larry and Faye Wright of Seminole, Oklahoma, three grandchildren, Jordan Wright and Holly Wright of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Brandon and wife Kara Wright of Georgetown, Indiana and one great-grandson, Jayden Samuel Wright also of Georgetown, Indiana. Funeral services are planned for 10:30 A.M., Monday, August 22, 2011 at the First Baptist Church at 420 Reid Street in Seminole, Oklahoma. Rev. Marvin Kehl will officiate at the service. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery with Military Honors. Casket bearers will be Larry McMains, David Cobb, Steve Smith, Carlos Mitchell, Patrick Garbutt and Larry Jernigen. Memorial donations may also be made to the Eloise Wright Nursing Scholarship in care of the Seminole State College Educational Foundation. Swearingen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
