Dewey Lonzalo Short, a beloved Daddy, Pop, Papa, Papa George, Father-In-Law, Brother, Uncle, and friend, went to join the love of his life on September 20, 2024, at the age of 85. After spending days with his son Robin Short, Dewey left this world in the comforting arms of his daughter Nancy and grandson Logan. He had previously been surrounded by family and friends who enjoyed visiting him often. Not only raising six children, Dewey helped raise his baby brother, many of his nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and generally anyone they brought home.
Dewey was born on September 15, 1939, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to the late Mount Lonzalo Short and Mary Belle McCullough Short. He was the eldest child and a strong leader to his siblings, David Joe Short, Gaylen Sue Freeman, and Lynn Eldon Short.
Dewey was loyal, intelligent, cheerful, funny, hardworking, and charismatic. He took pride in everything he did and fiercely loved his family. He had a heart for those who were in need and often helped in any way he could. He also instilled this quality in his children and grandchildren. Dewey lived his life to the fullest and with the utmost integrity. He was always thinking and doing the next right thing, no matter who agreed or who was around. He gave most everyone he favored a nickname. Dewey enjoyed attending his grandson’s basketball and football games. He was able to enjoy his son Robin for the last several years, as they ate breakfast at Willis’s Quick Stop on Monday through Saturday. On his birthday this year, he was thrilled to have his family and most of his children around the breakfast table. During this breakfast, Dewey, Goober Lee, Pooh Kid, Ant, Doog, Tykeson, and Doll Baby enjoyed laughing, reminiscing, and telling stories.
Dewey was 100% Disabled United States Veteran who served in the Army National Guard and retired from the Air Force. He graduated from Bowlegs High School in 1957. In his younger days, he coached Robin and Jay’s little league teams and was their Scout Master in the Cub Scouts.
Dewey was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Judy Marie Short (Hot Stuff); his oldest son, Jay Lonzalo Short (Sugar Boy); his Parents, Mount Lonzalo Short and Mary Belle Willis; his brother David Joe Short; his sisters-in-law, Janet Keith and Derinda Reade; and his brothers-in-law, Cameron Avey, Richard Keith, and J.D. Freeman (Derwood); and his best friend, Joe West, of Missouri.
Those left to cherish his love and memories are his daughter, Nancy Marie Short Jasna (Doll Baby or Pance Kid Short), and her husband, Nathan Jasna (Hat Rack or Mutt), Logan Jasna (Snick, Doog, or Doogo), and Hudson Jasna (Little Guy, Ant, or Ant Boy), all of the home. His son Robin Short (Tyke, Tykeson, or Whis); son Troy Short (Goober Lee) and wife, Debbie Short; daughter, Billie Hyden (Pooh Kid) and her husband, Roger, all of Seminole. His daughter, Donna Murray (Sister or Sissy), and her husband, Jack, of Owasso. His grandson, Ethan Jasna (Snuff or Snuffinator), his wife Emily (Emi Lou), and great-granddaughter, Everly Rose Jasna (George), all of Pocola. Grandchildren, Marcus Short (Rastus), and wife, Amanda, of Roland; Jonathan Short, of Ft. Smith, AR; Cari Henley (Punkin Head), of Owasso; Derick Worley (Grunt); Amy Prentice (Banjo Butt), and Danny Prentice Jr. (Johnny Mount), all of Seminole. His brother, Lynn (Jeep), and his wife Cricket (Clydene), of Paden. His sister Gaylen Freeman (Sour Puss). Great-grandchildren, Cayden Henley, of Owasso, Peighton Worley, of Maud, Michael, Matthew, Antoinette, Maycie, Jamie and Tobias Short, all of Roland. Aiden and Haley Dempsey of Seminole and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous other family and friends. He especially enjoyed having his friends, Jake Dorrough, Clifford Stafford, Gary Stafford, Billie Marie Gamble, Beth Hoselton, Ernie Willis and all the regulars at Willis’s Quick Stop, Walmart, and Bowlegs School.
