Derril L. Wheat

July 18, 1931 — February 25, 2016

Derril D.L. “Pat” Wheat, 84 year old Cromwell, Oklahoma resident, passed from this life at home on Thursday, February 25, 2016 with his loving family by his side.  He was born July 18, 1931 in Snowmak, Oklahoma (just south of Seminole) to parents James Buck Wheat and Oma Hazel (Estep) Baker. Mr. Wheat served in the United States Army in Korea.  He was also a member of the Choctaw Tribe of Oklahoma. On October 23, 1951 Derril married Betty Jean Minie in Van Buren, Arkansas. Together they always enjoyed spending time at Webber Falls to camp and fish.  Mr. Wheat enjoyed fish ponds, flea markets and being with his family. Mr. Wheat retired after working 33 years for C&J Oilfield Trucking in Seminole, Oklahoma. Mr. Wheat leaves to cherish his memory, two sons and daughters-in-law, Earl and Laura Wheat of Seminole, Oklahoma, Darren and Khristy Wheat of Cromwell, Oklahoma; five daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy Haworth of Maud, Oklahoma, Francis and Steve Keeney of Sasakwa, Oklahoma, Patsy and Ricky Haworth of Seminole, Oklahoma, Brenda and Eddie Johnson of Seminole, Oklahoma, and Joann Wheat of Seminole, Oklahoma; one sister, Oma Lee Jarrard of Skiatook, Oklahoma; 20 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren with one on the way; and a host of other family and dear friends.  He also had a very special dog, “Tammy” that stayed by his side until the end of his life. Mr. Wheat was preceded in death by his father, James Buck Wheat; by his mother, Oma Baker; by his wife Betty Jean (Minie) Wheat on July 24, 2001; by one daughter, Patty Burns on November 8, 2014; and by one infant son, Derril Jean Wheat who died in 1956. Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 29, 2016 with Military Honors at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma. Mr. Wheat’s nephew, Terry Jarrard will officiate the service.  Interment will follow at Little Cemetery (located north of Seminole on Hwy. 99). Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma. Public Visitation will be Saturday, February 27, 2016 from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and Sunday, February 28, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. and until service time on Monday, February 29, 2016.
