Derald Van Beauford, 87 year old longtime Seminole, Oklahoma resident, passed from this life on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at his home in Seminole. He was born May 14, 1929 in Seminole to parents Leona (Hill) Beauford and Wesley Van Beauford. Derald graduated from Prairie Valley High School in 1946. Following high school, Derald joined the United States Air Force where he served as a control tower operator. He earned the rank of Sergeant and also earned the good conduct medal. Derald owned and operated the Lazy “B” Orchard north of Seminole. He was awarded farmer of the year in 1984. Derald was also a member of the Seminole Masonic Lodge where he was a 32nd degree Mason. On September 20, 1949 Derald married Dorothy Pearl Wren in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Marie Beauford of Seminole, Oklahoma. One daughter and son-in-law, Lynne and DeAngelo Tanner of Seminole, Oklahoma. One brother and sister-in-law, Martin and Billy Beauford of Van Alstyne, Texas. 4 grandchildren, Jeremy Barksdale, Thomas Barksdale, Kasey Dunn, and Bianca Ross. 6 great-grandchildren, Jenna, Ethan, Chloe, Vladimir, Mary, and Carson. Derald is also survived by a host of other family and dear friends. Derald is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Pearl (Wren) Beauford who died September 24, 2012, and by one grandson, Ian Barksdale. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 23, 2016 at Little Cemetery Chapel with Military Honors. Rev. Carl Whitfield will officiate the service. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
