Dawn Michelle (Cross) Smith, 49 year old lifelong Bowlegs, Oklahoma resident, passed from this life to eternal life on Friday, June 22, 2018 at her home in Bowlegs. She was born July 12, 1968 in Seminole, Oklahoma to parents Hanley “Leon” Cross and Bernice (Sullinger) Cross. Dawn graduated from Bowlegs High School in 1986 and went on to continue her education at Seminole State College and Sooner College majoring in merchandising and design. Dawn had worked as a head start teacher and loved children. Dawn was a devoted wife, daughter and mother of three. Her life revolved around her family and friends. Dawn was a proud member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation of Oklahoma. She enjoyed participating in tribal activities as did her late brother and father. Dawn loved western culture and enjoyed sharing Potawatomi Culture with her beloved father Leon Cross. She also enjoyed watching the “Virginian” with her mother, Bernice Cross. One of Dawn’s favorite places to visit was Sulphur and Wewoka Lakes, along with her family. They made many happy memories together. Dawn leaves to cherish her memories her mother, Bernice (Sullinger) Cross of Bowlegs, Oklahoma; her husband, Dale Smith of Wewoka, Oklahoma; 2 sons, David Smith and Douglas Smith; 1 daughter Devon Smith; 1 sister, Sharon Tate of Shawnee, Oklahoma; 1 nephew, Jason Cross of Seminole, Oklahoma; 1 great-nephew, Dylan Cross; Dawn is also survived by a host of other family and dear friends. Dawn was preceded in death by one brother, David Cross, who died January 10, 2010, by her father, Leon Cross, who died October 27, 2011, and by one niece, Jade Nicole Cross. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at the Bowlegs First Assembly of God Church in Bowlegs, Oklahoma. Special speaker will be, Linda Capps with the Citizen Potawatomi Nation. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole, Oklahoma. Casket Bearers will be: Kade Houck, Jason Cross, Chad Houck, Gene Houck, Jeff Cavett, Chris Smith, Raymond Smith, and Jimmy Sullinger.
