David Wade Houck was the son of J.C. Houck and Ruth Houck both of Seminole, Oklahoma. David was born May 23, 1955 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at Wesley Hospital and died December 26, 2017 at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City, at the age of 62. David lived in Midwest City, Oklahoma until age 8 at which time he began living at the Enid State School in Enid, Oklahoma. While there David was taught to dress himself, go to the restroom and feed himself. They tried teaching him to brush his teeth and other personal tasks unsuccessfully. David was transferred to a group home care facility in Yukon, Oklahoma around 1976, when he was 20 or 21 years old. David lived at the facility for many years. They had a fenced courtyard where David loved to spend his time. When weather permitted he would walk, stand or rock back and forth while enjoying the sun. David remained at the facility until its closing around 2004 or 2005. David then moved to Okemah, Oklahoma where he lived at two different group homes. When care for David became too difficult he was moved to the Okemah Care Center nursing home where he lived the remainder of his days. David’s days on earth were not pleasant or fun, nor did he know fame or glory, hard work or sorrow, joy or pleasures life has. David was born mentally retarded and had cerebral palsy at birth. As David grew and the reality of this set in, our parents felt inadequate to care for him. This is when he began living at the Enid State School. David was always loved by family and friends as a youth and throughout the years by his mother, daddy and brothers. David is preceeded in death by both of his parents and his sister, Bernice (Necie) Ra’nee Houck. David is survived by his brothers, Glenn Houck and Danny Houck both of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and all of their families. The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 7:1 “The day of death is better than the day of birth.” This could not be truer than it is in David’s life. He has now escaped from the bondage of the body he lived in here on earth. He now has a glorified body and will know as we are known and will see his mother, dad, and sister in Heaven and above all his Creator and God. What a Great Day for David! If you must shed tears, let them be tears of joy, for this is David’s greatest Day Yet!
