David Madison Crawford

May 20, 1934 — February 5, 2024

David Madison Crawford of Maud passed away February 5th, 2024, at the age of 89. He was born May 20, 1934, in Maud, Oklahoma to Custer and Nettie (Cain) Crawford.  David was raised in the Maud area and graduated from Maud High School in 1951.

David married Edna Faye Duncan on November 20, 1953, in Clarksdale, Mississippi.  Their wedding was a double wedding with friends Arliss and Corky Birdsell. To David and Edna’s marriage four children were born: Lynn, Kim, Mike and Mark.  Edna passed away on July 25, 1983.  David was married to Dorothy Marx from November 2, 1984, to March 2001. Mark passed away March 26, 2018.

David’s early work career began in the oil industry.  He roughnecked, first as a floor hand and later as a derrick hand on wells in Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Colorado.  He became interested in building motors, which led to a 40-year career as an automotive machinist.  He started his journey working for Ray Smith at Seminole Tire and Supply. The family moved to California where David ran machine shops in Bakersfield and Los Angeles.  While working in Los Angeles his job description included being in commercials for the two Los Angeles machine shops where he worked.  After a stop in Midwest City David moved his family back to Seminole and returned to work for Smith Tire and Supply, which later became Seminole Auto Supply.  The family moved to Maud in 1970, where David lived until his passing.  He was known as an excellent machinist and provided services to customers nationwide.

David loved to fish.  Many vacations were spent fishing Lake Eufaula, Blue River, Arkansas River, Kiamichi River as well as many smaller lakes and creeks. He and his friends Junior Hudson and Benny (Bones) Marx fished together any time there was an opportunity. Verlin and Barbara Fletcher and their family were also part of the fishing experience, as well as fishing with his brother Leroy and his family. He enjoyed fishing with his kids and grandkids.  Many memories were made, and a plentiful supply of stories came from those adventures.

David was a strong provider for his family.  He made sure that regardless of any situation his family was fed and clothed.  Family needs always came first.  Even after his children moved from home, he helped them whenever possible.

Left to cherish David’s memory are his children: Lynn Crawford, Kim Crawford, Mike and Cleta Crawford as well as 13 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.  He leaves three siblings, sisters Loretta Bowder, Mary (Oda) Winter and brother Leroy Crawford (Artie). He was preceded in death by his parents Custer and Nettie Crawford, wife Edna Crawford, son Mark Crawford and grandsons Eric Crawford and Steven Crawford.

At David’s request no services will be held.

The family would like to thank Dr. Feuerborn and his staff, Bobbie, Stacey and Karen from SSM Home Health and Kim, Tandi, Jennifer, Herman and Terry from SSM Hospice.
