Daniel David Khoury, age 92 and a long-time resident of Konawa, Oklahoma, passed away Monday, March 19, 2018 at the VA Medical Center in Oklahoma City to live forever with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Celebrating Mr. Khoury’s life and birth, a Rosary service is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa, Oklahoma. The Funeral Mass is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 23, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Konawa, and burial will follow at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery. Fr. Adrian Vorderlandwehr, O.S.B. will officiate. Pallbearers are Philip Khoury, Stephen Khoury, Aron Khoury, Billy Kirkwood, Caleb Brooks, and Anthony Waldroup. Honorary pallbearers are Eric Granger, Darryl Brooks, and Carl Capps. Daniel was born March 23, 1925 in Shidler, Oklahoma. He was one of three children born to Maron K. Khoury and Thelma B. (Lozier) Khoury. Daniel married Mildred Davoult on July 17, 1943 in Abilene, Texas, and they would have celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary this year. Daniel was drafted at the age of eighteen and began serving the U.S. Army at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. His military service began in basic training at Camp Barkeley near Abilene, Texas. After being sent to Colorado for medical training, he served his tour of duty in WWII at the 65th General Hospital as a surgical technician in Disch, England from 1943 to 1945. When the war ended, Daniel earned his discharge at Camp Fannin, Texas. He continued his military service with the 45th Oklahoma National Guard where he served six more years. Mr. Khoury was currently a member of the Konawa American Legion, Post #70 where he held the offices of Adjutant, Post Commander, and Treasurer. In 2001 at the Konawa School’s Veterans Day Program, he was recognized and was awarded his long awaited high school diploma. In 2002, at the Veteran’s Memorial site in Ada, Oklahoma, he was awarded numerous medals earned during his tour of duty and military service. Daniel was semi-retired, but still enjoyed working with his son, Dan Khoury, Jr. at Khoury’s Furniture and Lumber Company, established in 1945, which has continuously serviced numerous area families and and businesses. He was a member of the Konawa Fire Department for twenty years and served as the Fire Chief for six of those years. He was appointed as one of the first members to serve on the Konawa Community Health Center Board in the late 70's. He was also invited to serve on the Oklahoma State Bank Board of Directors which later became BancFirst, and he served for more than thirty years. He served as Konawa Chamber of Commerce Treasurer for several years and had been an active member for over thirty years. He was recognized as the Konawa Citizen of the Year for 2010. Mr. Khoury’s spiritual leadership was exemplified through the Konawa Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he was a long-time member serving on the Parish Council as a Church Usher for over twenty years. He also served on the Board of Trustees at St. Gregory’s College in Shawnee for ten years. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Khoury of the home; one son, Daniel Khoury, Jr. and wife, Doris; two daughters, Claudia (Khoury) Sharber and husband, John, and Pamela (Khoury) Kirkwood, all of Konawa; one sister, Patricia Musser of Saginaw, Texas; ten grandchildren, Sheila Capps, Angie Brooks, Billy Kirkwood, Kaci Kirkwood, Kori Kirkwood, Candice Waldroup, Misty Granger, Aron Khoury, Philip Khoury, and Stephen Khoury; thirty-six great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maron and Thelma Khoury, and one sister, Mary (Khoury) Wood.
