Dakota Joseph Underwood

Dakota Joseph Underwood, Okemah resident, passed away on November 2, 2024 in Shawnee, OK at the age of 17. Dakota was born on July 5, 2007 in Shawnee to Waylon Andrew Underwood and Kathryn Jolleen Shepard. 

Dakota was an amazing kid and one could count on him for anything. He liked playing basketball. He loved fishing, spending time with his brother and hanging out with friends and family. Dakota was a talented rapper and musical artist and enjoyed writing and recording music. 

Dakota is survived by his father, Waylon Andrew Underwood; mother, Kathryn Jolleen Shepard; maternal grandmother, Carole Summers; great grandmother, Esther Collins; brother, Cainen Shepard; sister, Emma Shepard; uncle, Noah Underwood; two nephews, Deandre and Devontae and many other family and friends.

Dakota was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, David Underwood; maternal grandmother, Joanne Underwood, maternal grandfather, Eugene Summers and paternal great-grandfather, Pedro Johnson.

Casket bearers will be Justin Underwood, Arharlock Buckley, Preston Lynch, Maddox Collins, Chad Shepard and Jesse Rowe. 

Dakota will be taken to Apehkv (Arbeka) Church at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 11, 2024. The wake will be held at the church Monday at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at Apehkv (Arbeka) Church with Ray Tainpeah officiating. Interment will follow at Rock Creek Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
